LAYER ZERO #3 : CHOICES
I ALSO have a short story in ‘Layer Zero #3 : Choices’ from ‘Insomnia Publications’ that is rapidly incoming and will be debuted in time for Bristol Comic Convention on the 9th May.
You can get a copy from Amazon UK HERE
Speaking of Bristol I will be there Saturday and will probably be spending most of my time around the Insomnia booth in the Small Press Expo area so if you are coming then look out for me.
HOMETOWN HEROES
So this is the final day of voting for Small Press Idol and our project despite being in 3rd place for a long time has now slipped to 6th and that’s where it looks like it’ll finish. This is still enough to get us through to Round 3 (20 of the 27 projects will go through) however I have a lot of work to do for Round 3 to get more votes as this upcoming round only the top 3 advance. Eeeek!

So both myself and my artist have sorted out contracts etc, now the work begins.
I have sent him the plot breakdown and character notes and will post some stuff as I receive sketches from him etc.

Big things are coming.
GENERAL MOVING AN SHAKING AT INSOMNIA… POSSIBLE NEW PROJECT I HAVE TO PITCH
My good bud Richard ‘James’ Johnson will be joining the Insomnia team as Art Director, if you know him you know just how good a job he will do as he lives to tell people what to do.
There is also the announcement of a new imprint of Insomnia, the blurb about which I will post below :
“New Vigil Imprint from Insomnia
As many of you will know last year we signed the historical graphic novel Burke and Hare by Martin and Will Pickering.
The response we have already had on this book has been great, with people and magazines, not to mention libraries, museums and educational establishments, already emailing me to ask when it will be out. I’ve seen the first finished pages, though, which is a great perk of the job, and I’m not surprised people can’t wait – they are outstanding!
Anyway this got us to thinking and chatting with Martin about the idea of an imprint for more of this kind of book – fact-based stories of a biographical nature with supporting notes and research. As the conversation progressed it was obvious he would be perfect as editor, so we invited him to the party.”
This has come at a strange time for me just as a number of ideas and such have aligned and, as if I need more work to do, I think I will be making a pitch to Martin for the Vigil line at Bristol next week.
Wish me luck.
Cheers,
Chris

Just wanted to post a link to some pages I coloured a while back that have started appearing on Markosia site.
‘The Dark Tyke’ is the first of two Baby Boomers stories that I coloured, there are only 3 pages up thus far but they will appear gradually.
Enjoy,
Chris

Chad Cicconi and I have entered this years Small Press Idol contest with our co-created title ‘CLEAN SLATE’, a project that once upon a time on this very blog I referred to as ‘EduKate’. Since then it has been developed a little more and became our entry.
We are the 3rd entry so far into Round 1 for judging, and I am pleased to say have been voted through to Round 2 with a Yes from all three judges. Another project was voted through before us and the first project in front of the judges was sent packing.
Despite the ‘sweep’ there were some very good constructive crits that have been made, the next deadline for us to get our Round 2 entry in (Characters) is April 19th so expect more news nearer the time.
It’s during Round 2 that the public vote becomes a factor so no doubt I’ll be whoring myself out to people in order to get votes.
Anyway for now it’s just safe to say that I’m pleased to have made it through Round 1.
Cheers,
Chris

Well insomnia posted the E-Book of the catalogue they will be printing and taking to New York Comic Con with them, myself and my friend Rich Johnson are both mentioned in the ‘Layer Zero : Choices’ section and then at the end in the coming in 2010 section. 2010 seems far away but I get the feeling it won’t feel that way once I get there.

Cheers,
Chris

Looks like Insomnia Publications has hooked me up with an artist for the short script of mine that is to be published in their Layer Zero : Choices anthology this year.
The name of the script is ‘Beggars can’t be choosers.’, the title of this blog is in now way an expression of my feelings on being assigned the artist, in fact he is a very talented individual and I am looking forward to seeing what he produces.
The artist in question is one Des Langford, I’ll post more here as it appears.
Cheers,
Chris

Just a quick update, last time the Insomnia Publications blog (theredeye) was update Shiver was mentioned as an upcoming title along with a number of other great looking projects due from them.
Recently I’ve been working on getting a bunch of short scripts done as well as working on Shiver and finishing off the colours I had promised Chad Cicconi (Baby Boomers) which along with my starting a new job means I’ve been busy, busy, busy.
for now here’s a peek through the keyhole at a page I’ve just finished of Baby Boomers.
Expect more updates soon as I start making headway on some of the projects I’m working on.
Cheers,
Chris

Happy New Year everyone, hope every one had a good Christmas/New Year.
Mine went well, a bit of illness and I’ve spent FAR too much money but now it’s time to get down to business.
I don’t make New Years Resolutions usually, but this year I am resolved to set out my targets and achieve them, chief among them is that I am resolved to make some serious headway on scripting ‘Shiver’.
I have a url registered for it now, the contract will be along shortly.
Along with this I need to write more short scripts and submit them to the various anthologies doing the rounds.
Here’s to 2009 and all it will bring.
Cheers,
Chris

Just a quick post to update and announce that ‘Shiver’ has been accepted by Insomnia Publications. I’m really excited but also nervous, I need to actually get stuck into writing the script now I have all the plot sorted and then hopefully soon I’ll be able to announce the artist we attach to the book.
Still knee deep in colours also, everything seems to happen at once… not complaining… it’s just strange.
Cheers,
Chris
